Phil Burleson’s elected president. Membership reaches 800. Headquarters of NACDL moved to Austin when Charles Tessmer became NACDL President. Bill Reid was also named NACDL Executive Secretary. TCDLA helps NACDL membership reach 1,500 and is instrumental in the establishment of National College of Criminal Defense Lawyers and Public Defenders. Anthony Friloux is named Dean of the College.


The 1973 Penal code is enacted, as well as the Texas Controlled Substances Act.


TCDLA director Sam Houston Clinton files a brief in support of resentencing on behalf of an inmate serving 25 years for possession of marijuana. State ex rel. Smith v. Blackwell, 500 S.W.2d 97 (Tex.Crim.App. 1973).


TCDLA’s membership certificate redesigned. Linda Lowenthal begins calligraphy.
