Defending State Immigration Charges Under SB4

In 2024, Texas created new state immigration crimes and a deportation-like apparatus under Senate Bill 4 (SB4). For the past 2 years, SB4 was not in effect due to an injunction by the federal courts; however, in late April 2026, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals lifted that injunction. As a result, the State could start making arrests under SB4 for crimes like illegal entry and illegal reentry, as well as ordering individuals to return to Mexico. Led by defense attorneys who coordinated the Operation Lone Star defense program, this training will provide an overview of SB4 charges, discuss trial defenses, as well as suggest potential constitutional challenges to be litigated.
