Bio
Elizabeth Minako “Mimi” Coffey is a trial attorney with almost 20 years experience, and founder of The Coffey Firm. With law offices in both Dallas and Tarrant Counties, their focus is exclusively Texas DWI. She is certified in DWI defense by the National College of DUI Defense (NCDD) and has been the Texas delegate for the NCDD for several years. Mimi has tried over 300 cases, with 80% of them being jury trials. Recognized by the National College of DUI (DWI in Texas) Defense for passing their DUI Defense Board Certification exam. Completed courses on NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing as both a practitioner and an instructor, as well as classes as an Intoxilizer 5000 series operator and maintenance technician by C.E.S. Consulting. Completed the Robert F. Borkenstein course on Alcohol and Highway Safety: Testing, Research and Litigation, and the Borkenstein course on DWI/DUI drugs: The Effects of Drugs on Human Performance and Behavior- both courses designed for state technical supervisors. Mimi has been active over the past 4 legislative sessions in fighting against bad DWI laws. Her efforts prevented the breath/blood test refusal as being a separate crime. She has advocated for true deferred adjudication for DWI.
