Michael R. Gibson graduated from the University of Texas Law School in August of 1964. He originally practiced in San Antonio from 1964 to 1969. During that time he was associated with a private firm, served as General Counsel of the San Antonio River Authority and opened his own firm. In 1969 he went to work in the District Attorney's office in El Paso where he rose to the position of First Assistant and Chief Felony Prosecutor in charge of the Organized Crime Control Unit. Gibson started his private practice in 1972. He was Board Certified in Criminal Law in 1975. He was admitted to the bar in New Mexico in 1986 and was a board recognized Criminal Law Specialist in that state in 1991. In 1988 he was admitted to the State Bar of Colorado. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, in the 5th, 10th and 11th Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, San Antonio and El Paso Divisions and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Gibson limits his practice to Criminal Trials and Appeals. In 1997 a secret poll of local judges rated him among the top 10 Criminal Defense Lawyers in El Paso. Gibson has been selected to be listed in the Best Lawyers in America Publication in the 2005 through the 2014 editions. Gibson has tried more than 400 jury trials in his 40 years of practice and has pursued more than 100 cases in the Appellate Courts.
