He is a senior partner in the Houston law firm of Zimmermann, Lavine, And Zimmermann, P.C.. Mr. Zimmermann is board certified in criminal law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is the former chairman of ATLA's Criminal Law Section and Military Law Section, and is currently the chairman of the NACDL Military Law Committee. He is a former director of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and a former president of the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association. Mr. Zimmermann has lectured in 26 states and is a co-author of Criminal Procedure in Practice, a treatise on criminal procedure published in 2001. A graduate of the Naval Academy, he is a decorated Vietnam veteran, a former trial judge in the Marine Corps, and retired as a colonel from the Marine Corps Reserve after 30 years of service. Mr. Zimmermann has been involved in cases of national interest including the ATF and FBI siege of the Branch Davidian religious sect at Waco, Texas, the "Border Shooting Case" where an active-duty Marine was cleared of murder charges by three civilian grand jury investigations, and the defense of Gary Graham, whose 19-year battle on death row focused the nation's attention on the death penalty. He served as a special prosecutor investigating the conduct of judges, prosecutors, defense lawyers and lab personnel in the Dallas "fake drug scandal." Mr. Zimmermann has appeared on many television and radio shows as a commentator on legal issues.
