Gary Smart is a graduate of Texas Tech University and the St. Mary’s School of Law. Gary began his legal career as a prosecutor at the Dallas County District Attorney’s office in 1989. Since 1991 Gary has been a criminal defense attorney and partner at Robinson & Smart, P.C. In 1995 Gary became Board Certified in Criminal Law with the State Bar of Texas. During his career, Gary has defended clients in over 100 jury trials including Capital Murder trials in which the State was seeking the death penalty. Additionally, Gary has disposed of over 10,000 cases through trials, pleas and dismissals. Gary prides himself on giving back to the legal community and is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Texas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and is a current Board Member of the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (President in 2020). Gary is also licensed in the Federal Court Northern and Western District of Texas, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. When Gary is not working his cattle ranch or spending time with his family, he is working hard to make sure the rights of his clients are protected and defended.
